How to Get to Himara, Albania

Getting to Himara is part of the adventure. The town lies on Albania’s southern Ionian coast, where mountain roads meet the sea. The route is scenic, but it takes planning—especially if you are arriving late, travelling in peak summer or relying on public transport.

Arriving by car

Driving gives you the most freedom once you reach Himara. You can stop at viewpoints, visit beaches outside the centre and explore Porto Palermo, Jale or nearby villages on your own schedule. Roads are scenic and often winding, so leave daylight time for the final stretch and avoid rushing.

Arriving by bus

Bus connections can be an affordable option, but schedules and routes can change with the season. Confirm the departure point, latest timetable and luggage policy directly with the operator shortly before travelling. Once in Himara, choose central accommodation or arrange a taxi if your stay is outside town.

Private transfer

A private transfer is often the simplest option for a late arrival, families, groups or travellers who want to avoid navigating unfamiliar roads. Confirm the total price, vehicle size, waiting-time policy and exact accommodation drop-off before booking.

From other Riviera towns

Himara works well as a stop on a wider southern Albania route. Coming from the north, the road offers mountain and sea views; from the south, Porto Palermo and coastal villages make natural breaks. Plan fewer stops than you think you need—the coast deserves time.

Arrival tips

Download offline maps, carry water and avoid depending on one exact connection if you have a flight or ferry to catch. If you are renting a car, check the parking arrangements at your stay. In high season, arriving before dark can make the first evening much easier.

The easiest way to reach Himara is the way that leaves you calm when you arrive. Once you are there, the coast has a habit of making the journey feel worthwhile.
